The benefit of mindfulness through creativity is a key interest of mine and devise workshops to enable creative flow. A space where ideas can be strengthened and stories told, enriching your confidence and understanding of the creative process. Classes combine theory and practice and a chance to discover what excites you and how listen to your intuitive voice.

I teach drawing and painting for Cambridge Art Maker’s based in the Grip, close to Linton Zoo.

Watercolour classes are available through the Adult Education at Sawston Village College.

“I have learned that what I have not drawn, I have never really seen, and that when I start drawing an ordinary thing, I realize how extraordinary it is, sheer miracle.” – Frederick Franck

Drawing Studio

Unlock the extraordinary potential of your creativity, using drawing. The ten-week programme will help you build confidence and skills to work with a wide range of traditional and non-traditional drawing materials. You will have a chance to learn techniques to strengthen your observational skills, ability to draw from imagination and to enjoy the freedom or experimental mark making.  You will be encouraged you to explore line, texture, and form in unexpected ways. Drawing is more than just putting pencil to paper; it sharpens your observation, improves hand-eye coordination, and strengthens your ability to express emotions and stories visually. The aim of the sessions are to help you develop a personal style that resonates with joy and authenticity.

Whether you are a complete beginner or looking to refine your technique, drawing classes offer a structured environment to cultivate your creative confidence. They also foster mindfulness, reduce stress, and encourage a deeper connection with your surroundings. The ten-weeks allows you time to nurture and establish skills at a pace that suites you. Our studio is set in beautiful countryside near the village of Linton. If the weather is good, we might do some outdoor drawing. Drawing shows our thoughts and feelings, and like handwriting, it reflects our unique view of the world.

By combining two opposite ways of working surprising outcomes are a guarantee:

Observational drawing is fundamental in developing our ability to see and interpret the world with greater sensitivity, and depth. It trains one’s eye to notice very subtle details, proportions, and the relationships between shapes, fostering a heightened awareness that can significantly enhance creative flow engendering a deep calm and sense of wellbeing. By engaging directly and attentively with the subject, searching to capturing texture, light, and shadow and allowing the subject to emerge. This disciplined practice nurtures patience and mindfulness, encouraging a more thoughtful, deliberate, and intuitive approach to artmaking. For abstract artists, observational drawing is not merely about replication but about discovering the unique and dynamic interplay of line, form, and colour that sparks joy, emotion, and a meaningful connection

Experimental drawing is not about perfection; it's about expression, discovery, and joy. It opens doors to fresh perspectives and deepens your connection to the materials and your inner artistic voice. Whether you’re a seasoned artist or just starting out, this practice cultivates confidence and innovation.

Intuitive Painting

These painting workshops will be focusing on developing your authentic voice.  Through a series of playful experiments and more rigorous testing of art theories you will gain confidence in listening to your intuition.  This will enable you to gain confidence and enjoy using your discoveries in your artmaking.  We will be using mixed media to develop your ideas and introduce you to a range of techniques.  You will be able to understand the properties of the materials we use and discover ways that they can best be harnessed to create your desired outcomes.  We will be working initially on paper and then progress to developing a series of small paintings on panels.  The processes you will be learning will be applied initially to abstract ideas but can be incorporated into more representational work at a later stage.  We will be learning about Design, Value, Colour, Texture and finishing your work.  You will be introduced to ways in which you can critique your own work in a constructive way to help you develop as an artist..

“Cambridge Artmakers’ provide a beautiful studio with plenty of materials to inspire your creative journey”.
