The benefit of mindfulness through creativity is a key interest of mine and devise workshops to enable creative flow. A space where ideas can be strengthened and stories told, enriching your confidence and understanding of the creative process. Classes combine theory and practice and a chance to discover what excites you and how listen to your intuitive voice.
I moved to Linton during the pandemic, the village has been extremely welcoming, and I have found my sense of place as an artist, teacher, and resident. I teach drawing and painting for Cambridge Art Maker’s based in the Grip, close to Linton Zoo.
Watercolour classes are available through the Adult Education at Sawston Village College.
“I have learned that what I have not drawn, I have never really seen, and that when I start drawing an ordinary thing, I realize how extraordinary it is, sheer miracle.” – Frederick Franck
Drawing Studio
Unlock the extraordinary potential of your creativity with experimental drawing. This approach breaks free from traditional rules, encouraging you to explore line, texture, and form in unexpected ways. By embracing intuition and spontaneity, you’ll discover new techniques that transform simple marks into captivating works of art.
Experimental drawing is not about perfection; it's about expression, discovery, and joy. It opens doors to fresh perspectives and deepens your connection to the materials and your inner artistic voice. Whether you’re a seasoned artist or just starting out, this practice cultivates confidence and innovation.
Drawing studio at Cambridge Art Makers enables you to immerse yourself in this liberating process with a wide range of professional drawing materials available. Classes provide an opportunity for visual storytelling encompassing representational and non representational mark making making. This ten-week drawing class allows you to take a deeper dive into your drawing practice and develop your unique voice.
We will be using charcoal, graphite, and inks to explore how artists use drawing to develop their thinking and build on their ideas.
Drawing improves by honing hand eye co-ordination and gaining understanding of how you feel about what you see and then discovering ways to make marks to express these feelings and ideas.
You will learn about the different qualities the materials offer and how to make tools to broaden your mark making vocabulary.
We are fortunate to be working in a studio surrounded by beautiful countryside and the village of Linton. Weather permitting, we may wander out of the classroom for some observational drawing exercises. In the studio we will be able to create still lives and you will be encouraged to bring objects that hold meaning to you to include in your compositions.
You will gain a better understanding or line, tone, value, composition, and form and how these can enrich your compositions.
The Drawing studio is aimed to help grow your confidence you’re your enjoyment of drawing.
Drawing represents our thoughts; we express our ideas and emotions through the marks we make. We each have a unique way of seeing the world and our drawing, much like our handwriting demonstrates our individuality.
You will be able to share your discoveries in a relaxed friendly environment.
“Cambridge Artmakers’ provide a beautiful studio with plenty of materials to inspire your creative journey”.
These painting workshops will be focusing on developing your authentic voice. Through a series of playful experiments and more rigorous testing of art theories you will gain confidence in listening to your intuition. This will enable you to gain confidence and enjoy using your discoveries in your artmaking. We will be using mixed media to develop your ideas and introduce you to a range of techniques. You will be able to understand the properties of the materials we use and discover ways that they can best be harnessed to create your desired outcomes. We will be working initially on paper and then progress to developing a series of small paintings on panels. The processes you will be learning will be applied initially to abstract ideas but can be incorporated into more representational work at a later stage. We will be learning about Design, Value, Colour, Texture and finishing your work. You will be introduced to ways in which you can critique your own work in a constructive way to help you develop as an artist..
